Hubl
Helping English students that don’t speak the language get lessons
Hubl is a digital learning hub that helps students learning English as a second or foreign language (ESOL).
I worked as a UX/graphic designer on Hubl during Sync the City. Sync is fast-paced startup event, the aim is to build a startup within 54 hours.
When Hubl was pitched, I immediately knew I wanted to contribute to that project.
The opportunity to make a meaningful impact in people's lives is both rewarding and significant to me. It was a pitch that left me wanting to help create a solution in any way I could.
ESOL classes are often empty, with only a few students in each lesson.
Yet, at least 200 students are waiting for lessons in the Norwich area.
“I had to wait for three years before getting a class…was assessed multiple times…
and even filled out the same form three times,
In English! ”
-
Students are required to be assessed before they can be put into the correct class.
This assessment process creates a bottle neck in the system.
-
Majority of students have access to, and use a smartphone.
ESOL lessons are available.
Hubl aims to provide new students with a straightforward, accessible method to book English lessons.
We spoke with current students to understand how they accessed lessons and assessments, finding it often relied on luck. Some heard about it through friends, while others navigated the lengthy assessment process.
As part of the judging process, we had to present and explain our Minimum Viable Product.
I showed and explained the design choices of our product. It was an amazing opportunity, providing valuable practice for presentation skills beyond university.
The Pitch, and the win!
I’m so proud of our whole team, and the work we managed to produce in 54hrs. The experience was made even better by the fact we won the People’s choice prize!
